Beauty (The Financial Athlete #100)

“When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It’s to enjoy each step along the way.

– Wayne Dyer

A figure skater dazzles the audience with her dance on ice. She leaps and spins and extends her arms as wings ready to take flight. The athleticism is admired, but it is the beauty of sport that is loved.

To not love a sport is to miss the grandeur of its beauty. No words can adequately describe beauty of any kind. Beauty must be felt. And so it is with all crafts, each of which beholds its own unique beauty. First grasp the beauty of the craft, and love of the craft will follow. Love the craft and you will want to put in the time to elevate your skills toward mastery.

To invest strictly with the motive of making money is to be blind to the beauty of investing. Money is merely a by-product of a disciplined and effective long-term approach to investing or luck. Those who focus too much on gaining money become enslaved to it. Respect money but not love it dearly as the center of your life.
