“Cool Ruler”

Outside of Jamaica, the cradle of reggae, Gregory Isaacs (a.k.a. “Cool Ruler”) is not as famous as other Jamaican music legends from the 1970’s. But he deserves recognition as one of Jamaica’s finest musical artist ever. Still singing after 40 years of recording his voice has waned since the days he could swoon lovers like Barry White.

Isaacs has a long repertoire of original reggae songs, mostly rock steady. Frankly, much of it isn’t worth listening to, but amongst the rubble of forgettable songs are a good number of precious gems.

Here’s a song I often want to hear, and when I hear it I push the replay the button.  If Israel Vibration is one of your favorite bands, you’ll love this song.

“The Border’ by Gregory Isaacs
